Don’t get a wimpy mower, this thing is a Sherman tank
As we researched new lawn mowers, we’ve been using electric corded for years, but we kept seeing good reviews of battery powered units, compared to what was available in 2011 – last time we got a lawn mower. The Mrs. was concerned about running out of charge, just before finishing, but I’m pleased to report that off a freshly charged, new set of batteries, we did our whole space on 1/3rd power by the handle indicator, 1/4 charge on the batteries themselves. The fact that this particular offer comes with a 2nd set of batteries was an additional plus. Charge one set as you’re using the other and you can go twice the distance. It is a bit heavier, due to having a steel deck, rather than plastic, but this mower is rated for commercial use. The weight does add stability on level ground, but it could be a bit of a challenge on a significant grade. The brushless motor did come into play, revving up the speed as it encountered thicker grass, then back down again when the load got lighter. It is not of the self-propelled variety, my operating theory being the more complicated the device, the greater the chance for something to break down. Mulching is acceptable, using the included bag would add even more weight at the start, and keep getting heavier as it fills with grass, particularly if it is slightly damp. The other good news is we got the lawn cut faster, being liberated from the ballet dance you have to do with the live wire of the cord as we had on the previous mowers, making this Makita a welcome change, and also not replacing it with the fumes and fuss of a gas powered mower. So far seems promising and if we don’t have to replace this one until 2031, even if then, it is a good mower at a value price.

Doesn’t work very well.
I am a dedicated Makita user: drills, track saw, weed whacker, blower, circular saw, etc. I generally love their products. However, the lawnmower leaves a lot to be desired. The mower goes into low power mode randomly and you can’t shut it off. This causes the mower to slow the rate of cut and not getting the clippings in the bag. I had it serviced once because the motor quit, it happens. It did not fix the automatic low power mode. This is extremely frustrating and makes it impossible to mow the lawn at a reasonable pace. I was loading up the mower to take it in again, and while folding the mower it pinched/severed the wires that run from the motor to the handle. Poorly designed, a simple conduit would’ve fixed this problem. Now it’s trash. I’m going to toss a $400 mower that I just bought in June and go buy myself a gas mower that won’t cause me issues. It’s a bummer as I love Makita products. Steer clear of this mower, I’m sure you’ll be disappointed.
