The auto feeder works by pausing operation of the tool for a few seconds and as it slows down it spits out the string like it's supposed to
I was a little leary of this tool after reading some of the one star comments. After receiving this tool from unboxing to operation was less than 10 minutes and that was without reading the directions. I had to lol about one review saying it's hard to change the black handle to different positions. Lol your not supposed move the handle, you move the 2 pivot points on the tool which gives you a wide array of positions. Conclusion: some people should not operate any kind of power tools if they have no clue how to use them. Ignor the negative comments. BTW I have an average size yard and was able to Edge, trim and switch over to my blower all without a charge in between. Great tool. Oh 2 more comments about the negative reviews. One said the tool has all it's weight at the bottom which makes it difficult to operate. Yes that is true until you put the battery in. It then becomes a decently balance tool. Also I read the handle is flimsy. I imagine it would be if you didn't lock it in place. Best $50.00 weed trimmer out there. Have a good day.

Very powerful, easy to use but inoperative Auto Line Advancement and flimsy shield yielded a 3 star
The tool is basically a very good tool. I like how it can be adjusted to edge or weed wacker. I bought this because I own the GreenWorks lawn mower and am very satisfied with it. So, I figured I can get this product and use the same battery. G-Max is just as powerful as having a traditional weed wacker. Here are the drawbacks and why it received 3 stars. The Automatic Line Advancement does not work. Once the line becomes shorter from use it is supposed to advance; it does not. I have to stop, turn it upside down, take it apart and advance it myself. Even after I advance it and start it again the spool shorts. The second is the Guard. The Guard it too flimsy when in edging position and is difficult to use in taller grasses. If Green works could fix these two items it would have a solid 5 star.
